I knew Otis before I even knew it was Otis.
First sang along to Fa-Fa-Fa before I had a full set of teeth. There are tales of me—before the days of mandatory car seats—standing up on the seat with my arm wrapped around my daddy's neck.

Years later—once I learned who the man on the cassette tape cover was, he who had the same haircut as my cousin Jimmy Lee and my great uncle Wesley—this song became my favorite. And it still is.
